On February 14, 2007, Everton announced that Howard had signed a permanent deal with the club through the 2012–13 season. The permanent deal was believed to be worth around £3 million, but the exact fee paid by Everton remains undisclosed.During the 2008–09 season Howard set the club record for most league match clean sheets in a season. Howard started the 2009–10 season in fine form for Everton with four consecutive clean sheets, including away to Portsmouth where he excelled to help his team secure a 1–0 win and claimed the Man of the Match award for his performance. Howard captained Everton for the first time in a 3–3 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on December 12, 2009.

In July 2007 Baines rejected a move to Sunderland, after their bid of a reported £6 million was accepted by Wigan. In the following month he signed for Everton for an initial fee of £5 million, with another £1 million in add-ons, dependant on Baines' appearances for Everton.He did not play regularly in his first season, making just 29 appearances in all competitions, due to an injury and the good form of Phil Jagielka and Joseph Yobo at centre back which kept Joleon Lescott at left back.His second season at Everton saw an increase in Baines's playing time. Due to an injury to Yobo, Lescott moved to the centre of defence and Baines played at left back. He was voted Player of the Month at Everton two months in a row in the 2008–09 season.Baines scored his first ever Everton goal against Portsmouth on 21 March, at Fratton Park, after 57 games (in all competitions) without scoring.On 30 August 2009, he scored a last minute penalty in a 2–1 win over his former team Wigan. Following a recommendation by Willie McStay to former teammate and Everton manager David Moyes, Coleman was signed by the Merseyside club for £60,000 in January 2009, ahead of other interest from Ipswich Town, Birmingham City and Celtic.Before playing a game for Everton, Coleman had to undergo surgery on a career threatening blister. He made his debut in the Europa League in a 5–0 loss to Benfica. In his home debut, a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur, Coleman was named Man of the Match after coming on as a first half substitute for the injured Joseph Yobo. He played an instrumental part for both of Everton's goals in a 2–2 draw.Coleman made his FA Cup debut for Everton against Carlisle United in January 2010 and created a goal for Tim Cahill after only a few minutes on the pitch.

Jagielka signed for Everton on 4 July 2007, in a deal worth £4 million, the highest amount ever paid for a Sheffield United player.He made his home debut at Goodison Park on 31 July 2007 as a second half substitute in a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen, replacing Joseph Yobo in central defence.
After a slow start to his Everton career, Jagielka developed into an important member of the first team. He scored his first Everton goal in the UEFA Cup against AZ Alkmaar. He scored an own goal against Wigan Athletic, although Everton won 2–1, then he put in a succession of man of the match performances in the following games, against Tottenham, Brann and Manchester City. He scored his first league goal for Everton against Reading on 9 February 2008.Jagielka started the 2008–09 season as first-choice centre-back, playing every minute of every league game until being injured in a 2–1 home defeat to Manchester City. He won Player of the Month for February and won Everton's fans and club player of the season.

Hibbert was born in Merseyside and brought up in Huyton.
Aged 18, he was a member of the Everton youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1998 beating Blackburn Rovers 5–2 on aggregate.
Three years later, he made his first team début for the club in a 2–0 win against West Ham United aged 21. A high challenge from Stuart Pearce into Hibbert's chest saw Everton earn a penalty. In the 2002–03 season, Hibbert was a regular member of the Everton first team. The ACTIM index rated him the best English right back in the 2004–05 season.
He missed the end of the 2005–06 season with a hernia problem and his preparations for the 2006–07 season were hampered after he was infected by cryptosporidium parasite. Hibbert's 2006–07 season was seriously disrupted by injury. He again played regularly in the 2007–08 and in the 2008–09. He was the victim of a high-profile burglary in 2006.As of January 2010, Hibbert is the longest serving player currently at Everton, though he has never scored.Hibbert has appeared in more competitive European games than any other Everton player.

In August 2009, Everton signed Distin from Portsmouth for a fee of about £5 million. Distin wears the number 15 shirt at Everton and made his debut in a 2–1 victory over Wigan Athletic.
